As its name indicates (and surely you already knew before reading this article) this island has the shape of a palm tree. It consists of 5 kilometers in diameter and extends 78 kilometers on the coast of Dubai, and consists of a long trunk and a wide crown formed by some 17 "leaves". In addition, around there is an elongated island (shaped like a crescent) that surrounds it and acts as a breakwater. On both sides of the trunk there are also two lands that look like their "feet" whose mission is to allow the passage of water smoothly.

The material chosen (rock and compacted sand) to build this artificial island was specially selected in order that this mass, although artificial, could adapt perfectly with the existing nature, integrating itself into the environment without problems. For this it was necessary to subject the sand to a compaction process, in order that the water could not dredge it easily. Likewise, a breakwater crescent was installed that is strong enough to face the violent storms that recur every 100 years and that can bring waves of great height and power; It is more than 3 meters high, 11.5 kilometers long and 200 meters wide, and is formed by more than 7 million tons of rock. This is local in Dubai. Therefore it is include in one of our Dubai local sightseeing packages at low prices.

For the construction of this island, several thousand million dollars were needed to transport the materials: sand and rock for the land and vegetation and animals for the natural environment that was modified to obtain certain characteristics. To give you an idea of the amount of material that was necessary, we tell you that with all that sand and rock you could have built a six-meter wall that would go around the globe three times.
